Practice Analysis Survey

It will be necessary to conduct a Practice Analysis Survey (PAS) on all the competencies, once they have been drafted, to see if they really are considered by everyone as important, and relevant, and also how frequently used they are. All the people on the Participants List will be asked to involve themselves in the essential work of feeding back to us quite precisely how we are doing using the PAS.

This is not just an empty exercise. It is essential to ensure that the profession has been properly consulted and involved and that the results are therefore relevant. We will circulate this information to everyone on our mailing lists: the Participants to this Project; all the EAP organisational members and professional associations; and all the ECP holders and Individual Members. Normally, for such a PAS for a profession, at least (about) 80% of people involved (professional training schools, universities, practitioners, client groups, etc.) need to be informed and about 15% (or more) need to respond.

The rating scales used are:

We are also very interested in your comments, criticisms, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. There are plently of spaces for these on the PAS forms. Please put anything that you want into these spaces. All your comments will be recorded and will help to determine the final Core Competencies. This sort of feedback is also very important to us!

The resulting Scale of Rankings:

Examples of the use of rankings: These PAS rankings are thus very important as they allow the people actually in the profession (Participants) to advise on the designation and development of the Core Competencies of the profession.

The Practice Analysis Surveys for all the Core Competencies in each Domain were available from the end of July 2011.
You can start to complete these and then send them in to us: however, this part of the analysis is now over (Sept. 2012).

Results

Some of our Participants started filling these forms in and several Participants have completed filling them in ... and they now have 3 Gold Stars! (see here).
Ideally we would have liked a total of (about) 150 sets of these forms to ensure a sufficiently good represtation across the field, from as many as possible from:

However, what we actually got was about 1/3 of that: 49 Participants in all, with 42 usable sets of data. Still, it was just enough. We have now (Dec 2012) just completed the analysis of that data: the Quantitative Analysis, here and the Qualitative Thematic Analysis, here.

Thank You So Much!
